In this video I recorded two poems, one that I wrote and the poem Oppression by Langston Hughes. I added images in that I that I thought described the theme or meaning of the poems.

Connection and Comfort

This video below is so inspiring to me. Although it's an advertisement for T-Mobile, the message that it delivers is still so important; all people are connected and all people are equal. If we find those things that connect people we can all live as one. The human mind lives and thrives on comfort, love, and fun. Without these things we are just useless calculators with no purpose, no emotion, and basically no life. Music and dance are two of the biggest ways that people connect. This is seen in both Matt Harding’s video and essay. After this initial connection people start to develop relationships, which leads straight to love, the most important of my three principles. If everyone could put aside their differences and accept who they are and consider whom they need to help, then the world would be a much better place. After watching this video I realized how I can affect our world and sped the message of kindness and happiness to other people. It starts small, not spreading rumors, standing up for people, or just smiling.

Judgment and Discrimination

I found a link to this page from the site of my previous post "Pay it Backwards". I think this site shows that Susan Boyle felt that she wasn't good or stylish enough to be on live T.V. This has caused a it of controversy in the U.K. (Susan Boyle Makeover) Now she wears designer clothes and and has dyed her hair, making her look years younger. To me this shows that despite her talent she feels that she is still being judged by her appearance, which frankly is very sad. You might disagree with me, what do you think about this article?

Pay it Backwards

This video was important to me because it is just one more way of connecting people. As I mentioned my previous post "Connection and Comfort", people thrive on relationships and connections. I thought this would show another way that people can connect and demonstrate kindness.

Wishes, Hopes, and Dreams

Wishes, Hopes, and Dreams

When I first watched the Susan Boyle and Paul Potts videos, I knew that they were going to be good because why else would we watch it during class? I admire their performances. In the section of the videos before they performed, it showed how clumsy and unattractive they were, but they still had confidence. They were so driven by their dreams that they could look out at the smirking and laughing faces of the audience, and find the power deep inside them to stand tall on that stage and blow the crowd away. These two videos showed me how judgmental and opinionated mankind has become. We are constantly comparing, contrasting, and evaluating other people by their appearance. We judge by clothing brands, age, hygiene, and also very small things like hairstyle. I think that this is absurd. After watching these videos, I have realized that I have probably made numerous judgments like this and it made me feel bad. I believe that everyone should be given a chance and no one should be left out because of his or her appearance.

Justification: I chose this picture because I think that it demonstrates
people having free thoughts, but also dream and be driven by that to reach new heights.

I Am...

I Am…

I am the spark of a match,
igniting the souls of those around me,
sending us into a vivid blur of shining
color.

I am the raging fire,
never to be dispirited or smothered,
warming the hearts of those in hard times.
I am the dying flame settling down,
losing my seemingly endless energy.

I am the sleeping coals in the fire bed,
dreaming of all that I know,
all that I wish to learn-
all creations possible
within infinity's vast knowledge.

I am the fire,
once again alight
Rising from the ashes
New beginnings.

Justification: To me this picture shows a burst of vivid color in a very ordinary looking town. I interpreted this as saying that positive change can always enhance some things mood or atmosphere until it is completely consumed by the happiness. I feel that sometimes I act as this happiness by always being active, excited, positive, and a light in dark times, hence the fire.
